2001-07-05 - 12:30a.m. Quaint: 1)attractively unusual, esp. in an old-fashion style. 2)odd or inappropriate. *Quaint* is one of those words you can't quite define aptly. It's really something you feel, some sort of charm. I'd always taken for granted that I understood its meaning well. That was until today. I was trying to explain the word to Mavis, with little success. I was perfectly capable of providing examples of quaint, but I couldn't, for the life of me, give a satisfactory definition of the word. But I suppose the one I found in my dictionary is sufficient. Other puzzling words succinctly unraveled by Jeanette Winterson in 'Gut Symmetries': Love Affair: Amour honourable or dishonourable. Dream: An image of truth. Paradise: The Eden from which we have been forciblly removed. Male and Female: The uniting mystery of one flesh.
